Family Names
To indicate the range and extent of various surnames in Co. Mayo, a table of the 20 most common names was compiled from the parish surname indexes of Griffiths Valuation Survey (1855/57). It includes surnames of those which occurred 10 or more times in each civil parish. Where no surname numbering 10 or more occurred in a parish, the most numerous surname was included. The table below lists the 20 most numerous surnames, indicating where they are most common.
